Three PAX arrived for a Saturday morning workout on this holiday weekend! We started with a warm up stretch led by Honey Bear.
Then Tex, having chosen a random sampling from the front and back of the FiA Lexicon, led us through a few interesting workout routines. . .
Arm-ageddon – see Lexicon for description – we did each of the 6 arm exercises for 30 seconds with 10 seconds rest in between. No one had weights less than 5 lbs so we often started with the weight in hand and QUICKLY dropped it…we now understand where this routine gets its name!
Around the World Legs – see Lexicon for description of this lunge & squat routine – we did each of the 8 leg exercises for 30 seconds with rest in between for 10 seconds. PAX chose whether to hold weights for added work or go with body weight only.
Captain Thor – We had set our mats up on a hill at The Coop for a later routine, and it helped us out here on the Captain Thors. See Lexicon for description. This combo of sit ups and Russian twists in a 1:4 ratio had our abs on fire even with the help of a decline on the big girl sit ups. In all we did 55 Sit Ups and 220 Russian Twists!! We’ll be feeling that tomorrow!
We took a little break for a run/walk/jog around the Large Pavilion, then returned to our mats for…
Clockwork Push Ups – See Lexicon for description. This is where the hill came in. Who knew such a slight incline/decline could make such a difference. We started out up hill and did 5 push ups (12 ‘o clock). Then did 5 at the 3 o’ clock position, 5 at the 6 o’ clock position (hello decline push ups!!), and 5 at the 9 o’ clock position.
We only had a few minutes to play the Silly Sprints game (See Lexicon). We ran downhill to a pile of playing cards, picked one, ran back up hill to our mats and performed the exercise based on the suit of the card and the number gave us the reps. Repeat as many times as you can in the timeframe. The person with the most cards at their mat at the end wins…wins what? you ask. Well, the “best” workout, of course! We had a tie for first place with 5 cards and 2nd place came in right behind with 4 completed cards.
We ran out of time for “See You When I See You” (see Lexicon), but we’ll save that for another day.
We ended with a COT inspired by Gretchen Rubin (Tex’s favorite non-fiction writer) with a list of 10 things to do to boost your happiness – a few of which we had just done!
Happy July 4th Weekend!
